Yes!! Exotic Bird Lovers Can Now Become Candle Lovers!
Our candles are made from high quality natural vegetable waxes and contain no toxins. Not only does this mean that YOU will be able to breathe easier when you burn our candles, but so will your feathered friend.
We have a few distributors that joined us simply because they were thrilled that they could now use candles around their exotic birds. Read their very informational testimonials below!
Tropical birds and traditional candles don't mix!
There is a lot of concern with having expensive tropical birds and burning candles in the home. The concern is with the petroleum base and when you light a traditional candle, you are basically igniting an oil well in your home. Not only do you get thick, oily, black soot around the top of the candle jar, but the elements travel throughout the room and end up on furniture and walls. Plus there is the danger of lead or zinc, which is highly toxic to birds, in the wicks.
If the fragrance goes throughout your room, and it is in a traditional scented candle with a non-cotton wick, wouldn't it seem that you would also breathe the oily soot and chemicals? And if you breathe this stuff, your bird does, too!
Tropical birds are sensitive to their environment. And fresh, clean air is a priority. I never burned traditional scented candles with my birds (2 sun conures and a green cheek conure), but when I learned that our Gourmet Natural Wax Candles were non-toxic with all cotton wicks, I thought I would try one. I lit it in a room away from the birds. There was no black goop on the jar or on the wall above the candle, leading me to try one in the same room as the birds.
I have been burning these candles for 2 years, and have had no adverse reaction with my conures. Not only does the air smell wonderful when I burn a Gourmet Candle, but I believe it is clean also.
I was so impressed by the excellent quality of our Natural Wax Gourmet Candles that I became a distributor. It is a joy to belong to a company that is family oriented and actually cares about its distributors, helping them be successful by providing constant training and support.

Re: Questions About Rescue Group's Reservations to Burning Our Candles
I raised birds for a long time in California, and the effects of traditional candles can have very toxic effects on the avian population so your local rescue group is correct in having reservations and concerns about the safety of burning candles around the birds. And I may be even more sensitive about this issue than they because of my own personal loss. I can, without hesitation however say, that I feel completely confident about the safety of burning our candles around our birds, and in fact we have been burning them in the same room and even at times within 2 feet of their cages for over 2 1/2 years now. All of our friends that are bird owners and breeders are now also burning our Gourmet Candles exclusively in their homes and living spaces as well. One of them even became a distributor.
One of the deadliest combinations for our birds that is often found in cheaper traditional candles is Lead & Zinc. This is generally found in the wicks and in tiny amounts. It is not usually detected in association with reactions for us, but this is a DEADLY combination for birds, even in tiny quantities of exposure, and once poisoned by this combination there is little if any hope. Add to this the petroleum based products of traditional candles and the same thing applies. The candles that have this kind of base emit toxins in the smoke that to the avian community can, and do, have deadly effects.
There is no lead or zinc, our candle wicks consist of pure cotton, and there are no petroleum based products in the wax. So this danger is removed with our candles. I know some would argue that some of the fragrance oils, whether natural or synthetic, may be hazardous, and again, I understand their concern and protectiveness, but as most educated bird owners know, there are everyday things in our homes that deal in absolutes in the way of being toxic and deadly. Two examples would be Febreeze Spray and Teflon Coated Pans.
Our candlemaker uses nothing but quality fragrances and ingredients in our candles and I believe in his integrity and commitment to this. The cotton wicks, and the natural blending of beeswax, recycled plants, and vegetable products in our candles are not a threat. To further this point, think of how many customers you have sold our Gourmet Candles to that love them but were allergic to traditional candles; it is because of our healthier, non toxic, naturally blended candles. Whether for us or our birds, they are a healthy alternative.
I can say that I personally have no hesitation in recommending our Natural Wax Candles as a healthy and safe alternative to bird owners |everywhere. We put this to the test everyday in our own home, and I do this unreservedly. We currently have finches, cockatiels, and two umbrella cockatoos, and all are healthy and well. This has been the experience across the board with all of the other bird owners we have introduced to our candles. I have heard nothing but positive and glowing (excuse the pun) reports from everyone, and we have introduced our candles to a wide market of bird owners through our initial bird shows and fairs, above and beyond personal acquaintances.
In my educated, and experienced opinion, on this subject, we have a wonderful new product that is so very welcome to responsible bird owners everywhere. Our candles offer a safe way to enhance our living space without compromising our feathered friends and family.
